The origins of the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences extend back to 1823, with the founding of the Brooklyn Apprentices' Library. Ghada Amer (b. 1963, Cairo, Egypt) moved from Cairo to Paris at age 11. She studied painting at the Villa Arson EPIAR in Nice (BA, 1986; MFA, 1989). She relocated to the United States in 1995. She is known as a Feminist Artist and is known for her multimedia abstract canvases that combine painting with needlework.
